4.0 out of 5 stars Great air purifier for the price, May 15, 2005
This review is from: Honeywell 16200 Desktop HEPA Air Purifier (Kitchen)
Pros:

-size, very compact

-can be placed horizontally or vertically to save space

-does a very good job of removing particles from the air

-ionizer removes odors

-price, try to find an air purifier/ionizer for under $40

Cons:

-fully effective for rooms 110 square feet or smaller

-noise level (at low it is slightly noticable, on medium you have to turn up the tv a few notches, on high it sounds like a fan or air conditioner on full blast)

For the price, it does a terrific job in smaller rooms with the only drawback being the noise (which on low is very bearable). I leave it on high all day while I'm at work, switch to medium in the evening and low at night and it does the trick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Honest Review of Honeywell 16200 Air Purifier, December 12, 2009

This review is from: Honeywell 16200 Desktop HEPA Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I've owned this air purifier for about 7 years now. Keep in mind any air purifier that has a high output fan and is highly efficient and is going to move a significant amount of air is going to have some fan noise. Don't buy this or any high output fan-based purifier thinking it is whisper quiet.

The only way to get around this is to have a whole-house central-air purifier where the mechanics, fans and motors are in the garage and the duct work is throughout the house. This would be the only way to eliminate noise completely and still have a high output air purifier.

The price is affordable. Check around for the best price. I've seen it at Home Depot for $39.99. At that price you can buy two of them for a medium to large room!

The product is small, and compact enough to sit on a counter, bookshelf, table. The looks are appealing and sleek and it tends to blend in well with the surroundings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Value!Super Product!, April 14, 2005
This review is from: Honeywell 16200 Desktop HEPA Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I purchased two of these little units and I must say they are definately a bargain at this price. Most importantly though they really do the job.You can check the black liner a few days later and you will be amazed how much this little purifier sucks out of the air.I live in Ny and my home gets plenty dusty no matter how much I clean. This has helped my family breath easier.I am going to purchas a third on now,so I thought I would just share my experience while here.P.S. filters only need to be bought every six months thats a pro...cons only one...can be a little noisy if you are used to having complete silence in your home....to me the clean air is worth it!

The other reviews are very thorough. Just want to add a note that they are accurate.

We've had ours for a week now and it works great. Leaving it on low does a nice job of keeping our bedroom pure... well, the air at least...

Like someone else mentioned, the lights are rather bright on the control panel. We cover the top of the unit with the user manual at night to block the light.

One note for those comparing this one with the WH10400 model... the lower model does not have the auto-mode for the fan speed, does not have the fancy display, and it also does not have a remote. I almost bought the lesser model... but the auto mode pushed me over to buying this one. Its also interesting to see the display change color if the air quality is not great.

If you are looking to buy an air purifier, I would highly recommend this one.

UPDATE July 1, 2011 - purifier still works great... I've rinsed the foam dust filter on the back several... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It -- Tossed my old Sharper Image Purifier in the Trash!, January 29, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I've been wanting another air purifier for a while now. I had several Sharper Image purifiers and one Rabbit Air. I still like the Rabbit Air but always wished it had a UV bulb inside. But my Sharper Image purifiers have been collecting dust and sitting unused ever since they started acting up -- crackling, popping and making all sorts of annoying noises that no amount of cleaning can seem to remedy. Well, thanks to this Hoover, I finally got to toss out that old Sharper Image junk! I'm still using the Rabbit Air, but do consider this Hoover to be the better of the two.

Things that make you go DUH!

It wasn't until I got this home that I realized this Hoover Purifier is the same brand as the vacuum people -- DUH! Well, that little insight made me even happier about getting this unit. It's only natural that the people who make some of the best vacuums are now making one of the best air purifiers I've tried. I guess now they're in the business of vacuuming... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Low CADR ratings - only for small rooms - really bright, March 27, 2012
By
Rueg (De Forest, WI United States) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Hoover Air Purifier with TiO2 Technology - WH10600 (Kitchen)
The CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) apparently is only listed on the box the unit comes in. I couldn't find it even on Hoover's website. They probably are doing this because the numbers are very low: Smoke - 51, Dust - 84 & Pollen - 79. I believe the CADR numbers aren't useful numbers with UV and Ionization functions - those are things that can't be accurately tested by CADR testing? But those CADR numbers are so very low for a true HEPA filter. For people who are allergic to smoke, dust or pollen - the higher the number the better.

Another thing is the square feet this unit is certified for - 79 square feet. That's it? I thought that might have been a typo. That is a pretty small room - slightly smaller than a 10x8 room.

The indicator lights & LCD panel are extremely bright! They could probably have saved a few watts of electricity by dimming them down a bit. If you have it in your bedroom you are going to need to cover them up.

What is up... Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
Over the past several years, I have been on a search to find the best reasonably priced bedroom air purifier - one that works but doesn't cost a small fortune. I will give you the basics on my experience with the Winix WAC9500 and then you can see how I rank it against other purifiers I have tried. I have tried the Winix WAC9500 for only one week before writing this review, however I will update this review as my experience with the purifier proceeds.

A little background about the environment where the purifiers were used:
I have had a little more than 4-years of experience with four other purifiers besides the Winix WAC9500, all shown below. All of them were used in a medium-sized bedroom in a dusty environment. Except for the Whirlpool, which I used for 3 years in a downtown city-environment with a busy street outside my window, all of the others were used in dry, dusty, desert-environments with the grand title of having nearly the worst air in the country. Trying to research air cleaners is very, very time consuming. I spent a week doing it. I recommend you google "air purifier power". A second source is to google "allergy buyers club". The first source does not compete with Amazon because they do not actually sell anything. But Amazon still wanted the www address deleted. One important thing to note, if you google "air purifier reviews", please be careful. Many so called review websites are really owned by one particular company brand and they are pushing their brand over all others. But they try to disguise their web store as a place to check out reviews and ratings. Some websites do sell a variety of brands, but if you ask them for assistance, of course they are going to point you to the brands they sell and they are not going to mention other, better brands they do not sell. It was difficult finding unbiased assistance.

The Feedback of the first site ultimately led me to purchase this machine, even though they... Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
In the past, I've used various air purifiers, mostly due to my cat's dander and occasional odors (like burning something in the kitchen). Holmes HAP716-U True-HEPA 3-Speed Tower Allergen Remover was convenient and had a thin washable piece of foam, but expensive filter replacements. I used to actually vacuum out the filters to make them last. This Winix True HEPA Filter is an amazing machine.

The Winix cleans through five stages instead of two. Air is also pulled in from two opposing sides with 1" gaps instead of one side and shoots it straight up into the room. The air first travels through the "washable" Anti-Bacterial Pre-filter, then the True Hepa Filter, the "washable" cassette frame, then the "`washable" Nano-Silver Mesh, then the "washable" Carbon Filter before finally getting a dose of `PlasmaWave', which generates...
